What we thought

Chris

"I really enjoyed this game but it felt like it needed just a little more refinement in some areas. Some of the somersault moves were very satisfying to pull off, but others felt like they were just put there, to be there. The game reminds me of Shinobi III, which came out a year earlier than this and to be honest I prefered that game to this one."

"I think this is one of the best arcade-action games on the Super Nintendo. I like the graphics and art design in the game, its got a sort of futuristic cyberpunk style to it mixed with ancient Japan aesthetic, with robotic "Oni" style demons from Japanese myths as the bosses. I feel that it's quite derivitive of Shinobi III, taking some of the moves and control of that game, but it doesn't quite flow as well in my opinion. The moves here are more awkward and require much more preparation to pull off, and some actions, such as grappling with the hook are underutilised. Its a fantastic game with a lot of great set-pieces but I feel for the year it came out it required slightly more polished gameplay to make it to that coveted 5/5."
