Dynamite Headdy |
Treasure really must have known the in's and out's of the Mega Drive as their games always seemed to look better than 95% of the competition. Dynamite Heady is no exception, and apart from the graphics contained fun, varied game play with impressive set-pieces throughout, the boss battles are also rarely anything short of phenomenal in their design and execution. |

Tiny Toons |
For some reason Konami seemed to feel that they had to always use the Mega Drive's faster processor to the max and make all their games as fast as possible (not that I'm complaining) I feel that Tiny Toons benefited from this design ethos, as the game play turned out very fast, uncluttered and exhilarating, the password system was also a welcome addition. |

Revenge of Shinobi |

Haters seem to only associate the Mega Drive with Sonic, they'll moan about "lack of depth" and so forth, conveniently forgetting that Sega have more than one classic series at their disposal anyway, and you could hardly criticize the Shinobi series as lacking in depth, with it's precision based game play, versatile moves and selectable specials. In my opinion Shinobi is just as important as the more famous hedgehog in defining the Mega Drive. |

Ranger X |
A very original platform shooter where you play as a vehicle that can split into two sections both of which you still get control over (so long as you have a 6 button controller) the graphics are phenomenal and you wonder how the colour variety could be possible for the old Mega Drive. |

Vectorman |

Great run and gun game that has a totally unique look of it's own and some really nice lighting effects. The game play is simply excellent and the variety of different types of levels really helps to keep everything interesting from start to finish. |

Micro Machines 96' |
By the release of this iteration of Micro Machine's Codemasters had really had the time to craft their game play to perfection, the levels were more colourful and varied and the multiplayer was even more excellent than ever, this time with a track editor included for good measure too. An essential purchase for racing fans. |

Flink |
One of the more criminally under-appreciated games on the system, Flink contains a fantastic distinctive art style, excellent fluid game play that's augmented with many clever elements and variety, and loads of impressive effects and bosses. The game did happily get a spiritual sequel in the form of the PS1 game Lomax. |

Shining Force |
Sequel to the great Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force was a strategy game as opposed to the previous dungeon crawler and this ended up working much better. The story, graphics and strategy elements all worked very well and this style ended up being the route that the series would end up taking for future releases. |

Flashback |

After the influential Prince of Persia and Another World, Flashback stormed onto the gaming scene using the same immersive control and animation, but this time with some excellent level designs, variety and atmosphere too. |

A ground breaking and highly influential sim which sees you playing the part of a god, and to be honest who doesn't want to experience having that sort of power? |
