The 100 Best SNES Games

Welcome to Retro-Sanctuary's Top 100 Best SNES games. Now, for anyone new to the site we follow a set of guidelines for all our lists. We aim to represent the best of all genre's, we try to limit the number of sequels included to allow more underrated games to shine, and also tend to avoid games that have been ported from earlier systems that don't use the hardware to its full potential. The best Import games are allowed, but only when they're import friendly and don't require an FAQ to play.

Thanks and enjoy the list!

100
Super Smash TV   Super Smash TV
This fun and frenetic top down shooting arcade classic where you take part in a deadly game show was ported excellently to the SNES, the control scheme works well and the game thankfully manages to be as fun as it ever was.

Pieces   Pieces on SNES
Who'd have thought competitive puzzle piece placing could work so well as a game? This plays like many of the 2 player block puzzle games in that you're always attempting to defeat an opponent, and if fast enough you're given access to different ways of creating problems for the opposition such as freezing them or causing their controls to be reversed. Two player matches are a lot of fun and can often become quite tense and competitive.

98
Batman Returns   Batman Returns on SNES
A license game which really manages to convey the movie source material, Batman Returns is a very well crafted beat-em-up that has a nice amount of variety and manages to give you a real feeling of strength, when the enemies slam into the ground you can almost feel the pain yourself. It also stands as one of the more violent and gritty snes games out there.

97
Madden 94'   Madden 94 on SNES
Sports games always seemed to be better represented on the Mega Drive in the early days but this game really stood as the first time where the SNES version managed to compete with the Mega Drive iteration on a toe to toe basis as an equal.

96
Sunset Riders   Sunset Riders
Here's another great arcade port that remains as popular as ever to this day. Deep down at its core its just another run and gun game, but the game play is very polished (with some nice variation in the levels), and the cowboy theme such a welcome change that it manages to rise above its lessor brethren. Avoid the bad Mega Drive version as it was hacked to pieces with numerous omissions.

95
Super Pang/Buster Bros   Super Pang
Super Pang is single-screen shooting game where the aim is to pop the bubbles, every time a bubble is shot it splits into multiple smaller bubbles which, if you're not careful will end up completely inundating you, an addictive and fun game.

94
Phalanx   Phalanx on SNES
One of the better scrolling shmups on the SNES, Phalanx takes some of its inspiration from classic series' like Thunder force. Solid game play with some great music, a cool graphical style and impressive effects all stand in its favour.

93
Equinox   Equinox on SNES
Equinox is the sequel to the NES classic Solstice, game play is a mixture of puzzle solving and adventuring. It doesn't quite live up to its classic predecessor but is still a great game well worth checking out.

92
NBA Jam   NBA Jam on SNES
The genre defining Basketball classic was ported from arcade to console excellently here, with its signature emphasis on over the top action and fun perfectly intact.

91
Metal Warriors   Metal Warriors
Taking inspiration from the Assault Suits series (Cybernator, Target Earth) Metal Warriors has you controlling a mech and blasting the crap out of everything in sight, one of the best things about this game though is the fact that you can now disembark from your mech and fly around with a jet pack stealing other, different mech's, unfortunately some of the levels tend to look a little drab at times which is why I felt that I should lower its placing.
