Retro Weekends Episode 6: Alex Kidd in Miracle World

"This is a very good game but I don't think they got the skill level quite right as I didn't really feel like I was improving much at the game while we were playing it, they should've made it a little more forgiving in my opinion. On the upside though there's no getting away from it, there's definitely a very real attempt by the designers at providing a lot of weapons and environments for the player so as to add more to the game play experience. The Rock/Paper/Scissors aspect of the game is also very unique. "

"I'm not going to lie the first time I played this game I felt it was very overrated, but the more you play it the better you get at it the more you enjoy it, you just get more confident in your movements as time goes on and are eventually just leaping through the levels delivering flying punches on the enemies. I feel the game stands up very well for its era, this is 1986 remember so its coming out between Super Mario Bros 1 and Super Mario Bros 2. Personally I think this is a much more ambitious game than the first SMB, its got more boss fights and more variety in the environments, there's currency which can actually be used to purchase things in shops, giving the player more choice, and the vehicles (some of which are reminiscent of those found in Wonder Boy) are cool too. The game is imaginative and tries out a lot of new things for the time, and any flaws it has are somewhat normal for the era."
