What we thought

Chris

"The game is solid for its time, its game play is okay, as is the music. Its just your average Donkey Kong clone really and there's no a lot else to say about it, its the sort of thing you expect from an Atari 2600 platform game. My main issue was actually with the Atari's controller itself, as this game needs it to be more responsive than it is."

"This is a good example of what platform games were like when it came out in the arcades in 1982, this is a time when Donkey Kong still ruled the roost and represented a 5/5 megagame. Obviously Kangaroo is heavily influenced by Donkey Kong, but it does try a few new things out (it has the addition of a punch button that lets you attack the enemies for example). Unfortunately during the year it took to reach the home things had moved on a little and the computers were doing much longer and more ambitious games, but this is still a reasonable offering in the genre and was ported to the 2600 better than Donkey Kong had been."
