What we thought
"This is a good game, graphically it very impressive, maybe not so much musically but its not bad for the time. I liked the variety and imagination in the events, the relay for example had some nice simple strategy elements and attention to detail with each person having different stats, which is quite cool. So yeah, all in all an enjoyable game."
4/5
"This is quite an impressive game for 1984, the graphics especially are fantastic. The animation is excellent, and even though its low resolution there's quite a lot of detail and polish in the graphics. The game play is varied, with each of the games being quite different, and obviously these types of sports games were massively popular at the time with Track N' Field and Hyper Sports being huge in the arcades. Surprisingly Summer Games is really at the forefront of the genre though, managing to somewhat leapfrog the arcades and providing more events than any of the consoles could muster at the time, very impressive. On the downside there's not a whole lot of longevity to the single player experience as you don't really feel like you have an objective, this is really a multiplayer game at its heart."
