Grid Runner

Grid Runner

A simplistic game where you have to tag the other player then try to collect as many flags as possible before being tagged yourself (with priority reverting back to the other player), there's all sorts of other elements such as floor boosters, and you get a selection of different moves too. Where Grid Runner really excels is its 2-player mode, which is a lot of fun.

Crusader No Remorse

Crusader is a PC port of an isometric mission based action game, you creep around the levels dispatching the guards, and solving puzzles, there's shops to buy better equipment from, and FMV's detailing the story as it takes place.

Amok

Amok on Saturn

3rd person shooting action set in a dystopian future, Amok is a very smooth, fast, and impressive mission based game which has you blowing up bases and rescuing prisoners of war. Even more impressive is that the game manages to feature a very commendable, smooth running split screen co-op mode.

Astra Superstars

Astra Superstars

The Saturn has so many good 2D fighting games on it that its easy to lose some of them in the glut. Astra Superstars isn't one of the most balanced of the fighting games on the system, but it is quite unique, with you playing in mid air at all times with flying characters. Its a lot of fun, but is a bit overpriced these days unfortunately.

Mass Destruction on Saturn

An action game of brainless destruction, Mass Destruction is fairly reminiscent of the 3DO's Return Fire (albeit without the crowning 2-player mode). Its a pretty fun mission based (though each mission effectively boils down to blow crap up) warfare game. This version of the game was the best one available, due to its better visuals and smoother frame rate.

Alien Trilogy

Alient Trilogy on Saturn

Alien Trilogy was a good early console Doom clone when arriving on PS1, running very well, sticking close to the film source material and oozing with atmosphere. Probe did a pretty good port here, nearly all the PS1 stuff is intact and reportedly it manages to do this even though its only using one of the two Saturn CPU's! with the respectable job they did here, and with Hexen, its a shame they (or even better Lobotomy) hadn't been given the job for the Doom port too.

Tempest 2000 on Saturn

Revamped version of the arcade classic where you control the ship at the front of the screen and fire into the background. The new presentation is great, and the core gameplay hasn't aged a bit.

World Series Baseball on Saturn

At its time of release this was pretty much the best Baseball game ever, it had fantastic graphics, and the voice clips for commentary were pretty faultless too.

Steep Slope Sliders

SSS is a smooth snowboarding sim which had some really impressive graphics and excellent controls for its time. The game set a good few bench marks on its arrival, but unfortunately now days its a little dated and lacks incentive to spend time with. Still worth checking out though.

Shining Wisdom

Shining Wisdom on Saturn

Probably the weakest of the Shining games on the Saturn, with Wisdom Camelot decided to change pace and go with a Zelda style adventure experience, and to be fair they did a pretty decent job of it because the gameplay is well done for the most part. But where the problem is, is that Wisdom was originally designed for the Mega Drive, and unfortunately this really shows, not only with the lacklustre graphics, but with the dodgy 3-button controls. Not to be too down on it though, as really this is a long and involving game, and pretty soon you start to look past its faults, its just a shame it didn't try to make the most of the hardware a bit more.
