| By the time it was released on the 3DO Wolfenstein was admittedly a bit past it's sell by date, having been completely overshadowed by its own successor, the seminal Doom (which sadly was completely butchered for its own 3DO port). But whilst late this was actually a very good version of the FPS milestone as it was completely uncensored, and contained lots of additional extras, in fact it was probably the best console port of the game at the time. | |||||

The Horde |

| This is a cool little 3DO strategy original. The Horde is split into two halves, the first where you have to build up the town defences and do things like plant crops and buy cows and such, and the second is like an isometric hack n' slash affair where you have to protect everything you just made from the horde. The game alternates between these two styles and every season you have to make sure you have enough money to pay taxes as well as enough left over to buy items and upgrades at the shop to deal with the ever more dangerous horde ramping up their attacks. | |||||

| Electronic Arts managed to massively improve on their first Shockwave game with this sequel, which sported better graphics and control, a more engaging storyline, and much more interesting missions that didn't quickly become repetitive like the original game's often did. The game is a mission-based shooter which has you using a variety of different vehicles. The acting in the cutscenes is as corny and funny as always but in this case just seems to add to the all round experience! | |||||

| Syndicate was released on many, many different systems back in the day, the 3DO being among them. It's a tactical mission based game where you order a team of mercenary types around with the goal of fulfilling a bunch of morally questionable mission objectives, usually involving assassination and such. It's a bit of an enduring classic and received a sequel on the PS1 years later. | |||||

| The first time I played this odd first person RPG I hated it! but after reading a glowing review in one of my mags I decided to stick with it and sure enough the game is actually quite good. As soon as you manage to defeat that first guardian you really do feel a compulsion to power up and take over the whole world. Definitely not a pick up and play game (you start very weak, the controls feel odd & the big non-linear world can be daunting), but if you put some time into it before long you start to feel in control, and begin to understand the ways of the bleak dog eat dog world the game inhabits. | |||||

| This classic game was really ahead of it's time when first released for home computers back in 1991. The character animations just look fantastic (similar in some ways to the look of Prince or Persia), but the imaginative back drops, more varied gameplay and memorable storyline elevates Another World much higher. Another thing worth mentioning is that whilst the 3DO version was quite a late port, it did have all the background graphics re-done, and they look great in comparison to other ports. | |||||

| I can't believe the amount of times I passed up buying this cool futuristic sports game back in the day, if ever there was proof to the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" then this is it. The box and title sounded cheap so even though I had few available games at the time I repeatedly passed up buying this very fun multiplayer experience. The game is quite simple and is heavily influenced by the Atari classic "Ballblazer" you get a first person view and have to run over a ball and fire it into the square goal to get a point, if the other player shoots you, you fumble the ball, a hell of a lot of fun. | |||||

| Another nice cult PC game that ended up getting ported to the 3DO, this time made by genre stalwarts Strategic Simulations. Panzer General is your classic turn-based hex-grid strategy war game where you move troops about to attack and conquer your enemy. A very deep strategy game that became quite successful on the PC and spawned many sequels. | |||||

| What is it with 3DO games and dodgy controls? Po'ed is one of the worst offenders in this respect, every button on the joystick has a function (including X) and when C is held down every button on the controller uses a secondary function! You even have to double press some buttons to give yet another function! Luckily when you've got your head around the controls the game is very playable, its quite smooth, very humourous, gives you loads of weapons, pretty good level designs (though you need to get proficient with the map) doesn't scrimp on the ammo, and has a very cool rocket pack that works well too. | |||||

| Sequel to the early survival horror classic, this sequel moved away from it's lovecraftian-horror styling and survival horror game play and became more action orientated, which I think is rather a shame as the combat was always one of the weaker elements to the original game! still, its not a bad game by any means it's just missing some of the great atmosphere of it's predecessor. Unlike the first game, this was eventually ported to the Saturn and PS1 as "Alone in the Dark: Jack is Back" | |||||
